Every summer when my grandfather was alive we would go to Massachusetts Cape Cod. The picture below is of the lighthouse that I think of when I think of him. If there was ever a picture that represented him, this would be it. Light and free!
What is the use of tweezers in first aid kit?
What is the use of tweezers in first aid kit?
Tweezers: Tweezers are an important tool to have in any first aid kit regardless of how basic your kit is. Tweezers can be used to remove debris such as glass, dirt or splinters from a wound and can also be used to remove stingers left behind by bees. With the pin point of Uncle Bill’s removing a sliver is made quick and painless which is a must when it comes to your kids. Be safe!
Facts
What exactly are tweezers?
Tweezers are small tools used for picking up objects too small to be easily handled with the human hands. Simple and sweet, but yet not so simple because tweezers can do so much. My dog once had a tick and our tweezers were the only thing that got the tick out. Sure you can pull it out with your bare hands, but did you know that a tick’s body is actually not as strong as it seems? Many times little pieces can break off and stay stuck and lost in a dog’s fur or a person’s body. Tweezers can help with that since the finger nails aren’t small enough to grip. Sure, eventually your skin will push the foreign object out, but you never know what a tick can carry, so it is important to remove the tick as soon as possible. Don’t forget to always sterilize your tweezers afterwards!
Titanium Tweezers
Titanium tweezers are a great solution to the age old problem of solder sticking to the tips of tweezers. Titanium was discovered in England in 1791 and named after the Titans of Greek Mythology. Titanium has the highest strength to weight ratio of any metal.
These tweezers are excellent for working under high magnification on demanding applications. If you are interested in our titanium option you can e-mail me for ordering options. Kjslivergripper@gmail.com.
April Fools'
So this blog has been mostly about tweezers, but I thought that it would be funny to acknowledge April Fools’ Day. One of my friends received an e-mail saying that since it was her half birthday a store would give her half off of everything. She was all geared up to go and then when she got to the end of the e-mail it was a joke. At first she thought about boycotting the store because it got her so excited, but later realized that—after the fact—it was kind of funny. So where does April Fools’ Day come from?
The most common theory about the earliest April Fools’ celebrations goes like this: In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII issued a papal bull decreeing a new standard calendar for Christian Europe that would take his name and centuries later become the standard internationally in the 21st century.
Prior to the 15th century, Europe’s nations and city states operated using the Julian calendar. The Gregorian calendar moved the date of the New Year from April 1 to January 1, among other changes. Catholic monarchies were naturally its earliest adopters, though Protestant nations later followed suit.
Given the nature of the reform, both in terms of communicating such a fundamental change to a large population and dealing with critics of the new calendar, some Europeans continued to celebrate the new year between March 25 and April 1. April fools were those who still celebrated the holiday in the spring, and were the subject of pranks and ridicule by those who observed the New Year months ago.
That’s just one theory for the origin of the holiday, however. There are other notes on the holiday’s traditions, other occasions resembling April Fools’ Day that preceded the more contemporary incarnation by centuries.
So how did you celebrate April Fools’ Day?
Tweezer Food
I had never heard of the concept before. There are so many views on it and whether it is good or bad. It is simply high-end restaurant cuisine that is delicately prepared and presented – often literally with tweezers. Tweezers are altering how chefs move around the kitchens in restaurants. Chefs will assembe each dish with a series of almost soundless movements. When all the cooks are bent over one plate, tweezers poised, it looks like a silent game of Operation played backwards.

Storage
With the keychain clip you don’t have to worry like with other tweezers (chances of friction.)
In case you find your tweezer-tip, blunt you could sharpen it from time to time at a knife store or in the comfort of your home with sand paper.
Don’t forget to clean your tweezers, especially if you’ve bled. Take a cotton ball and dip it in alcohol and wipe out the tips thoroughly. You can then soak the tweezers in a hot water for around 5-7 minutes.
Why stainless steel tweezers
Stainless steel tweezers are the best pick over the nickel or alloy ones. This metal is suitable to the skin and guards against any skin infections. It also remains stainless and does not rust. It is also very strong and durable. Get your stainless tweezer now!
How to use tweezers properly
Steps
- Begin with prepping your skin.
- Prepping the tweezers could help reduce the pain as well.
- Then, with a spiral brush gently sweep your brows upwards.
- Once done, take a pair of eyebrow scissors and trim the extras.
- For the plucking procedure, grab the hair right from the roots in one swift pull.
A little more history
The word tweezer comes from etwee which describes a small case that people would use to carry small objects (such as toothpicks) with them. Etwee takes its origin from French étui "small case" from the Old French verb estuier, "to hold or keep safe." Over time, the object now known as "tweezers" took on this name because the tool was commonly found in these tiny carrying cases. Eventually, the word "tweeze" was accepted as a verb in the English language.
There is even evidence of Roman shipbuilders pulling nails out of construction with plier-type pincers. How interesting is that!
A little history
In honor of black history month, I thought that it would be interesting to take a closer look at the history of tweezers.
When was the tweezer invented?
There are drawings of Egyptian craftsmen holding hot pots over ovens with a double-bow shaped tool. Asiatic tweezers, consisting of two strips of metal brazed together, were commonly used in Mesopotamia and India from about 3000 BC, perhaps for purposes such as catching lice.
They have been used to grab or hold hot objects since the dawn of recorded history. In a scientific or medical context they are normally referred to as forceps.
Next week I’ll cover how it got its name

Tick Kit
Here is a picture of what our main store offers. It is a tick kit that has all the essentials. Great preventative measure for Lyme Disease which I wrote about last week. Take care!
Lyme Disease
What is Lyme disease?
Lyme disease is an infection caused by being bitten by an infected tick. The first and typical symptom is usually a rash that spreads out from the site of the tick bite. Left untreated, the germs (bacteria) can spread to other areas of the body.
What is Lyme disease and what causes it?
If a tick bites an animal carrying the bacteria that cause Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi), the tick can also become infected. The tick can then transfer the bacteria to a human by biting them. Ticks can be found in any areas with deep or overgrown vegetation where they have access to animals to feed on.
What type of bacteria is Borrelia burgdorferi?
Borrelia burgdorferi is a bacterial species of the spirochete class of the genus Borrelia. B. burgdorferi exists in North America and Europe and is the predominant causative agent of Lyme disease. Borrelia species are considered diderm (double-membrane) bacteria rather than gram positive or negative.
